I am Fiona Garden BSc MRCPod, Podiatrist and owner of New Town Footcare since 2007.
Previously I was employed by Scholl for 11 years where I worked in Edinburgh as a Podiatrist. I was also a Chiropody Assistant in NHS Lothian for 2 years from 1990-92.
I graduated from Queen Margaret University in 1995 with a degree in Podiatry and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a government led organisation who regulate allied health professionals in the UK.
I am a member of the Royal College of Podiatry, a professional body for Podiatrists.
We treat a wide range of foot problems within our practice in New Town, Edinburgh.

Ensuring we leave you happy and more comfortable is our goal, and we aim to provide you with all the information you need to make your visit to us a successful one.
At your first appointment, you will be asked to fill in a medical questionnaire and sign a consent form for treatment. This is vital to allow us to assess your foot problem in context with your health and to provide appropriate care.
Appropriate documentation is required for those who do not have capacity, and we cannot be responsible for declining to treat a person if appropriate documentation has not been provided at their appointment.
This is a legal requirement, and regrettably we cannot provide treatment without it.

Please note: All new patients require an initial visit appointment. This involves completion of a medical questionnaire and consent, assessment of your foot problem and appropriate treatment.
Payment is due at the time of treatment unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed. We accept cash and card payments. We are also able to accept payment by bank transfer.
Please ask if you would like to use this option and we will make my bank details available to you.
Should you no longer require your appointment please give as much notice as possible. A 100% appointment charge will be applied if a patient fails to attend or less than 24hours notice is given and the appointment cannot be filled. Repeat occurrences will result in higher charges or prepayment before an appointment is booked.
Patients with additional needs such as dementia, Alzheimer's and learning difficulties are exempt.

We are legally required to collect and store certain information in order to aid your treatment, or as part of purchasing something from my business. To do this you will normally provide me with certain information such as personal contact details, physical and mental health information (including details of your GP and medication), and payment information.
We may also collect information on your social circumstances or lifestyle, and racial or ethnic origin where relevant.
You will be asked to provide this information at your first appointment, and it will be updated on each subsequent contact with you.
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. We take every precaution to prevent issue, or alteration of your personal information by putting in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures, including restricted access to storage areas, and data encryption/password protection for information kept electronically. Information is stored either on paper or by electronic methods.

Simply put, in order to provide you with the best care and service possible, and to satisfy my legal, tax and accounting obligations, we need to collect your information from you. In order to provide treatment, we must be able to collect and store your information.
When contacting me via my website and social media, your data will be used only to answer any queries. Any data shared will only be stored with me if you then become a patient/customer.
My website is secure, and does not utilise cookies, though we do track visitor numbers to the site. No data is stored on the website.
Information about my patients/customers is important to my business. We share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
When we do share your data, we are required to comply with the general data protection regulation (GDPR).
We will never sell or distribute your information to third parties for marketing purposes and will only contact you regarding appointments or your care, never for marketing.
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in this policy.
However, we may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. The retention of Podiatry records is normally a minimum of 8 years after the last appointment, but varies for children, and adults with incapacity. For customers who are not patients, but may have bought products from my business, we will keep any data you may have provided for a minimum of 6 years in line with tax legislation.
After the retention period has lapsed, information is securely and appropriately destroyed.
